Contemporary and practical living space
The brief
The clients wanted help with a new, fresh colour scheme as well as updating the furniture for their living and dining rooms. At the same time integrate the recently added conservatory, modernise the fireplace and give special attention & importance to their much loved artworks of Guernsey and Marks’s 200 bottle whisky collection!
The challenge
An outdated fireplace positioned in the middle of the living area blocked out light and was tricky to work around. The clients no longer liked the existing colour scheme and did not have any particular style or colour preferences.
The approach
We considered how the fireplace wall could be changed to create an open plan feel to integrate the rooms whilst retaining functionality.
The client’s artwork inspired our colour scheme of soft greys and muted mauves balanced with oak and walnut, accented with black chrome and nickel.
The result
The finished living area flows from the hall way to all the way through to the rear garden. There is greater spaciousness and an airy feel throughout. The clean lines in the new furniture and finishes, as well as the neutral, harmonious colour palette, create a calm contemporary space for this family to enjoy.
The tunnel fire further emphasises the clean uncluttered lines as well as allowing greater connection with the dining room.
Layers of controllable lighting allow for a range of moods, tasks and atmospheres including dedicated lighting to the artwork, adjustable and dimmable down lights and a statement chandelier over the dining table.
Some rearrangement of the furniture layout provides better seating positions and social space.
After a great deal of consideration, anti-glare film was installed to the conservatory windows in favour of ‘heavy’ roller or pleated blinds.
Bespoke furniture included an upholstered footstool with coffee table, made to order media unit, sideboard and shelving.
The softly textured wallpaper to the alcove (formerly the whisky shelving) provides a gentle reflective backdrop for delicate bronze sculptures.
What our clients say…
“We couldn’t have done it without you! We love the colours and the feel of the rooms – relaxed and welcoming, our family and friends love the new look and the shelving just brings huge smiles and joy.
The lighting is fabulous, being able to have a range of moods and lighting levels brings a new level and range of experiences. We had no idea that all this would be possible” – Mark & Margaret
